The town of Mohammedia is located 25 km from Casablanca along the Atlantic coast. The 100-hectare site presents an opportunity to create a new neighborhood with high-quality green space and an active streetscape. The project consists of 3000 housing units in three different zones—waterfront, parkside, and large parcels—each with its own unique lifestyle. The waterfront parcels maximize views from each apartment while facilitating access to the ocean for both cars and pedestrians. A network of footpaths, surrounded by ground-floor commerce and generous green space, draw the activity of the beach into the heart of the new neighborhood. The parkside parcels are organized around a linear green space, inverting the traditional typology of the Moroccan courtyard to create a rich urban experience. Finally, the large parcels to the south of the site are dedicated to large-scale projects such as public amenities and educational facilities. These three distinct identities bring a diversity of architecture, landscape, and public space to this new district of Mohammedia.
